The "elephant in the room" is an English idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed.  The idiom is often used to describe an issue that involves a social taboo, such as substance abuse.  It is also commonly used in substance abuse recovery terminology to describe the reluctance of friends and family of an addicted person to discuss the person's problem.

Coming January 2009, Operation PAR will be talking and they want you to join the conversation! The Pink elephant Magazine is an informative substance abuse magazine designed to remove the stigma often attached to the topic of substance abuse. The more comfortable people are with the subject the more likely they are to seek help. The more informed people are the more likely they are to support the treatment and prevention of addiction.

It’s all about the community. Our community. Your community. For over thirty seven years Operation PAR’s mission has been to create healthier communities one family at a time, and with the launching of Pink elephant Magazine, Operation PAR will further that objective by removing the reluctance of discussing substance abuse and substance abuse recovery.

Pink elephant's mission is to inform professionals, families, and communities of the risks regarding substance abuse, as well as educating them of the treatment and resources available.

Every issue of Pink elephant is jammed packed with information concerning all areas of substance abuse:
